Acer aspires to be on the top of the list

40 million units is the target

There were no solid indications four years ago that Acer Inc. could acquire the top spot for having the largest share on the mobile PC market before the of the decade.

Reportedly, company’s chairman JT Wang announced to the press, that Acer carefully looks to implement the goal of 30 million netbook units shipped by the end of 2009. Moreover, Wang expressed the company’s aim of becoming number one mobile PC seller in the world in 2010. In order to achieve the goal, Acer Inc. has to ship over 40 million netbooks and notebooks in the upcoming year and thus raising its total revenue by 15 percent.

Allegedly, Hewlett Packard, the current title-holder, is also planning to ship more than 40 million units and keep its position. Acer’s JT Wang pointed to the reporters that the company will focus on surpassing HP on medium-size, ultra-low voltage (ULV) netbooks arena. Nevertheless, Acer will carry on releasing new notebook models.

Simultaneously, the company expects that its competition with HP will eventually generate an opportunity for Dell, which has been ranked third.

Acer is holding its quarterly investors conference tomorrow.
