Lenovo's latest Intel Atom N450 powered netbook revealed

Lenovo's latest Intel Atom N450 powered netbook revealed

Last week Lenovo announced that it would be the first company to roll out a Snapdragon-based Smartbook and this week the company has managed to come out with a new netbook based on the upcoming Intel Pineview platform. Lenovo’s new Pineview-Atom powered netbook has just hit the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) and as usual some folks have managed to get the pictures right to our laptop screens. This new netbook which will most probably be launched under the Lenovo IdeaPad brand has the same processor that all netbook diehard fans have been waiting for – the upgraded Pineview Intel Atom N450 processor. The name of this new netbook as per FCC filings is FL5-B3, which I think, will be changed when it is finally launched by Lenovo.

Although the formal spec sheet is not out yet but we think that it will have the following features:

  • Processor: 1.66GHz N450 Atom CPU
  • Memory: 2GB DDR2 Samsung chip
  • Hard Disk Drive:  Seagate 250GB HDD @ 5400 RPM
  • Display: 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 pixels

The technical specifications are still under question, but the details shouldn't be too far off target as the machine is built on the next generation Atom platform. As per the picture seen at FCC, it is clear that the netbook will feature a glossy piano black design with a large keyboard that should be rather easy on the fingers. Absence of trackpad buttons on the upcoming Lenovo IdeaPad netbook suggests some sort of integrated clicking that users will get to enjoy which is something close to a MacBook design.

This upcoming Intel platform (Pineview) is currently scheduled for release in the early days of January therefore the pictured model will not be available in the shops till early next year. We are hoping that this netbook will be unveiled at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) that is going to be held in January 2010. Till then I suggest you stick to your current netbook.
