Jolicloud Alpha 2c saves battery life and tweaks processor performance

The rise of the netbooks has led to the development of new operating systems. We have seen these small devices being run on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, Ubuntu, Windows CE, Android, Jolicloud, etc. Jolicloud has recently launched Alpha 2c version of its operating system which is said to offer an improvement over the earlier version. The new version not only fixes previous issues or bugs but also includes the latest stable version of the Linux kernel, which should result in faster operation and system boots. The new release also includes a new applet that allows you to manage battery life (by switching between four options conservative, on-demand, performance, and power save) along with CPU performance (by tweaking between four processor modes 800MHz, 1.07GHz, 1.33GHz, and 1.60GHz). A Firefox patch is also included to improve browser performance. The other main bug fixes are as follows:

·         Fixed the sound issue on the HP Mini 1000 and on the Compaq Mini 700EF

·         Internal microphone problem of Samsung NC10 resolved

·         Fixed the wireless connection issue on the MSI Wind U100, MSI Wind U120, and Asus Eee PC 701SD

·         Webcam issue on the Asus Eee PC 70 resolved

·         Wireless on the EeePC 1005HA and 1008HA now more stable

Jolicloud developers are now developing the next version of this operating system which will have a super optimized Linux kernel that will take advantage of the Intel Atom processor which has become popular among netbook manufacturers. This kernel will provide are: faster boot, faster response, better battery and graphic support. Jolicloud developers have also said that for non-Atom netbooks like the Eee PCs 700, 900, etc. they will maintain backwards support as their objective is to support as many netbooks as possible.

The Jolicloud operating system is compatible with the following netbooks:

·         Acer: Aspire One, Aspire 150

·         Asus: Eee PC 700, 701SD, 900, 901, 904HD, 1000, 1000H, 1000HD, S101 / Eee Box B202 / Eee Top 1602 should work

·         Compaq: Mini 700EF and HP Mini 1000

·         Dell Mini 9 and Dell mini 10v (not on Dell mini 10)

·         Intel Classmate and derivates should work

·         Lenovo S-10 series

·         MSI: Wind 100, Wind 120

·         Samsung NC10, N310
