A recent announcement by CTL reveals the introduction of a new touch screen convertible notebook called the 2go Convertible Classmate PC, which will work both as a laptop as well as a tablet PC and is mainly targeted at the youth. It is mainly an education-centric notebook.

A similar prototype was on display at the recently concluded CES at the Intel stand as its reference design intended as a blueprint for other OEMs to work from. CTL must’ve taken a cue from there.

The new machine has a clamshell tablet design. Equipped with a liquid-resistant keyboard, this notebook comprises of an 8.9” LCD screen with 1024×600 resolution. Techshout notices the screen bundling in an accelerometer that allows for rotation and inverting, touch technology that is capable of identifying an individual’s handwriting and a digital writing and drawing support. Powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 270 processor, the notebook comes bundled with 1GB of RAM, shock-mounted 60GB hard drive, 802.1 b/g/n Wi-Fi. The notebook also features the Quick Launcher that is a touch-enabled function offering support for shortcuts to numerous pre-loaded applications. With a six-cell battery that has a life of about five hours, the notebook is accessorized by a movable camera and a removable carrying handle.

“While the 2go Convertible Classmate PC can function as a netbook-style laptop, its uniqueness is that it is a tablet device as well—it is one of the first netbooks with touch screen capability on the market, and we expect it will be very well received as a versatile and cost-effective learning device.”, mentions Erik Stromquist, executive vice president of CTL Corporation.
