This new beauty will be a lot costlier in Australia than in many other countries.
Thank yourself for once for not being in Australia this fall. If you liked the latest Sony showoff, that is. I know it has been Sony’s policy to keep pricing separate geographically depending on the market size. That is extended to the latest Sony Vaio W as well. It has been reported that in lot of countries, this machine will sell at about $100 costlier than in US, where you can get the same piece for $499. But they have gone two steps further and kept a starting price-tag of $999 AUD or US $776 -60% more than what it costs in the US.
Sony has an explanation for everything – the exchange rates and conducive for such a price-tag, also the Australian market is still smaller compared to that of US, so maybe there applies a bit of Price-skimming technique (Price skimming is a pricing strategy in which a marketer sets a relatively high price for a product or service at first, then lowers the price over time. It is a temporal version of price discrimination/yield management that allows the firm to recover its sunk costs quickly before competition steps in and lowers the market price).
The W series has a 10.1" widescreen LED-backlit display with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. The widescreen makes it easy to display webpages thus eliminating the need for side scrolling. The keyboard is quite spacious with responsive keys and it also has a well designed touchpad. The Vaio W is powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor along with 1GB of RAM. It is really chic and it comes in three new exciting colors.
