Sony Vaio P fails to impress even with the upgrade

The high cost has been attributed to this failure

Sony Vaio P has just come back from the garage with some spec bumps. The new Vaio P still seems overpriced, thanks to the premium pricing policy of Sony. The new models replace the existing line up of Windows Vista with the new Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional. Besides this other spec bumps that were till now on offer only in Japanese models, are now global. These are:

  • Intel Atom Z5xx series processors up to 2GHz
  • Up to 256GB of solid state flash storage

Earlier the specs read as:

  • 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor
  • 80GB conventional hard disk

Now that’s a real sad upgrade because we are still stuck with the low performance Z5xx series processors and GMA 500 graphics and there is no option of buying the Vaio P with the high end N2xx series processor.

Prices:

The base version will cost $850 with a 1.33GHz Atom, 2GB of RAM, and an 80GB conventional hard disk whereas $1000 will get you a 64GB solid-state and a 1.6GHz Atom. The 2GHz chip and 256GB drive come in a range-topping $1,900 model. Now that’s too much to ask just for the name SONY. With that amount of hard cash one can go in for Asus models which have a much better spec sheet and don’t cost a bomb!
