It is powered by a VIA processor and offers 1080p HD playback
F88, a netbook unveiled by an OEM (original equipment manufacturer), is all set to make bold new claims in the under-powered netbook segment. This new netbook boasts of full 1080p video playback and also has an HDMI port to connect the netbook to an external display. It has a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1024x600, which might seem to be somewhat low, but, since it has an HDMI output port the more demanding users can always switch to an external display.
On the outside this new netbook resembles the Asus Eee PC 1002HA, but, on the inside this netbook is powered by a 1.6GHz Via Nano processor, that offers a respite from the usual Intel Atom processor. Moreover, it also has a S3 Chrome graphics chip which is also a welcoming change to the traditional Intel GMA 950 graphics chipset. Although most of the netbooks in the market have a limit of 1GB of RAM and 160GB of hard disk, the new F88 offers the users more memory and hard disk space. Users can put up to 4GB of RAM and 500GB of hard disk drive in this unit. Other features on the F88 include:
· WiFi
· Bluetooth
· 1.3MP webcam
· HD audio
· Multi-card reader
· Three USB ports
· HDMI output
· 6-cell battery
Since this netbook is an OEM version it will come rebadged with a new brand name. The exact pricing and availability of this model is not yet known. The specifications look powerful enough and it seems as if this netbook will diminish the fine line between netbooks and notebooks, but, nothing can be said until this netbook reaches the streets.
