Amazon.com has released the Amazon Kindle for PC application that is available for download at their site. This software, which is free for download, turns your laptop or desktop into an e-reader and helps users to read books by accessing the Amazon digital book site. The software is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 and Amazon is soon going to come out with a Mac version too.

It has a small file size (5.2 MB) and can be easily downloaded with the help of any internet connection. With this launch, Amazon aims to make its Kindle content available on iPod touch, Kindle DX, iPhone, and now a PC. Amazon digital book site offers access to loads of books, including new releases, which are mostly priced at $9.99 or less. In order to download books, you'll need to connect to the Amazon Kindle store. When you select a title, Kindle software will help you view the e-book that was downloaded to your PC from the website.

Amazon Kindle features:

1. Amazon's Whispersync technology that automatically helps in saving and synchronizing bookmarks and last page read across devices.

2.  Zoom in and out of text with a pinch of the fingers (Windows 7 users only).

3. Turn pages with a finger swipe (available in a future release for Windows 7 users).

4. Read the beginning of any book for free before you loose your purse strings.

5. View notes and highlights marked on Kindle, Kindle DX, iPhone, and iPod touch.

6. Access their library of previously purchased Kindle books stored on Amazon's servers for free.

7.  Adjust words per line and get to choose from more than 10 different font sizes.

System Requirements:

  • A PC with a 500MHz Intel or AMD processor or faster.
  • At least 128MB of RAM.
  • 100MB of available disk space
  • Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, or Windows Vista or Windows 7.
  • Screen resolution of 800x600 or greater.

Well, if you love e-books too, I suggest that you go ahead and download this software today.
