The battle for the top-spot begins

As Notebookcheck.net earlier reported, Acer plans to acquire the top spot for having the largest share on the mobile PC market before the end of the decade. In addition, the name of the company appears in the press quite often lately, as it has provided the media with many ambitious statements about its future.

According to DigiTimes, the vicious price-fight has already begun in a few selected markets, with HP offering some sub-$300 models in the U.S.A. Reportedly, Acer’s chairman JT Wang said the company is prepared to make every endeavor to outgo HP by promoting its ultra-thin and netbook devices, since HP is a little weaker in these segments.

This occurs just one day after Acer demonstrated confidence in being able to ship 40 million units in 2010.

Allegedly, Wang believes the global laptop market is likely to reach 350 million units in 2014.
