ASUS to release a $180 Smartbook

The device is expected in Q1 2010
Reportedly, ASUS boss Jerry Shen announced at an investor conference yesterday that a new Smartbook product is going to be introduced in the first quarter of the upcoming year. Moreover, the price of the device is expected to be roughly NTD 6000 (≈$184).
Despite the fact that earlier this year Jerry Shen said, “I still don't see a clear market for smartbooks”, he now believes that it could be their “secret weapon” with a great potential for growth. Nevertheless, their Snapdragon Smartbook was put on hold several months ago.
Allegedly, ASUS aims at achieving top spot on the NB market. Product’s speed and cost, as well as, ASUS’ R&D innovation are going to be the keys of implementing this goal.
ASUS supposedly aspires to introduce new Smartbooks, eBooks and tablet-type devices at next year’s Computex and CeBIT exhibitions.
