And this not the only good thing about its new HDD family
Toshiba announced three new 1.8-inch hard drives. Moreover, it claims to have, as of November 5th, the world’s largest drive of this scale with a storage capacity of 320GB.
Reportedly, Toshiba targets the light and thin mobile computers and external HDD devices with its three new models sized at 160GB, 250GB and 320GB. These products house an improved perpendicular magnetic recording head. Toshiba says its new line delivers power efficiency, high-level of durability and quiet seek operation.
These tiny hard drives are equipped with a serial SATA interface. In addition, they have a rotating speed of 5400 RPM and 16MB of buffer memory. Allegedly, the areal density improvement of the MK2529GSG’ family increases internal data transfer rates by 15%.
“Toshiba's MK3233GSG HDDs are ideal for notebook PC applications that require high storage capacity and high speed processing” is said in a news release.
The company says its new devices are also environmentally friendly. As stated in the news release, the MK2529GSG’s line is compliant with the European Union’s RoHS directive on the elimination of six hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
Toshiba’s new 1.8-inch hard drives will start mass production in December. Nevertheless, no specific pricing information is available.
