Acer joins other manufacturers in adopting Win 7
Acer is reportedly planning three touch-enabled products with Windows 7 – as reported by Digitimes. Shih Hung-wu, Project manager from the company's mobile computer department, told Digitimes that touch-enabled netbooks may see good market acceptance if they are to be marketed as cheaper alternatives to tablet PCs.
Tablet PCs have indeed seen a growing acceptance from consumers due to their sleeker design, the futuristic touchscreen capacity, longer battery life and mobility. The Asus T91 and Gateway T1028X have been well-received. Several netbook makers like ASUS, HP, Dell and MSI are all preparing to launch tablet convertible netbooks next year.
After the T91, ASUS is planning the 10” T101H after the release of Windows 7 later this year.
MSI will launch a 10” tablet netbook at the start of next year.
HP also plans to have one out in April or May, next year.
HP and MSI, at least, should adopt the Pine Trail-M platform for their tablet netbooks.
