As per a new report from Japanese blog Great G-Shock World, Casio appears to be prepping a brand-new square G-Shock model. Early signs are pointing to "GW-BX5600" being the name of the model, which has now surfaced through international certification filings. The new model will likely be released as a follow-up to the well-known GW-B5600, but with some upgraded internals and potential design changes.
While Casio hasn't officially confirmed anything yet, the "BX" designation does raise some questions. Past models using the "X" in their name have included carbon fiber components, and the same might apply here. That theory is supported by the recent listing of the MTG-B1000XBD-1AJF, which uses a carbon bezel. It’s too early to say for sure, but a carbon-reinforced case is definitely on the table.
What seems more likely, based on the GW-BX5600’s code and naming structure, is that it will continue using Casio’s Tough Solar charging system and Bluetooth connectivity. That would place it in the same smart-enabled segment as the current GW-B5600, which can be paired with smartphones for automatic time sync and other basic functions. If confirmed, this would also make the GW-BX5600 one of the few square G-Shock models to include both carbon parts and wireless connectivity.
The "GW-B" prefix historically refers to models with both Tough Solar and Bluetooth. Adding a new "X" series to that lineup could mean Casio is preparing a sub-line or special edition under the same base design, similar to what it has done with other style-themed collections in the past.
For now, no release timeline or price has been revealed. But given that certification listings usually show up close to launch, more details could be expected from third-party news channels and Casio in the coming weeks.
