Casio has unveiled a new collaboration watch designed with the Surfrider Foundation Japan, the G-5600SFJ-9. Surfrider Foundation Japan is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to protecting the oceans and beaches. As such, the shock-resistant watch is made with bio-resin and designed for surfers or beachgoers, with features like 200 m water resistance.
The G-Shock Surfrider Foundation Japan collaboration watch has a subtle yellow and beige patterned bio-resin casing and strap. The NGO’s logo can be found on the watch's face and rear casing, and the words ‘#oceanfriendlylifestyle’ can be found on one end of the strap. It measures 46.7 x 43.2 x 12.7 mm (~1.8 x 1.7 x 0.5 inches) and weighs 47 g (~1.7 oz).
This 5600 Series watch supports up to five stored world time zones; users can choose from a list of 48 cities. Other features include a 1/100 stopwatch, a countdown timer with a 24-hour range, five daily alarms and an hourly time signal. Plus, a white LED backlight helps you to read the digital display in low lighting, and the calendar is fully automatic. Plus, Tough Solar charging extends the battery life, estimated at 12 months, with typical use before solar charging. There is also a power-saving mode and a battery level indicator.
The Casio G-Shock Surfrider Foundation Japan G-5600SFJ-9 watch is expected to launch in Japan in June 2025 with an RRP of ¥ 20,900 (~$143). It remains to be seen whether this model will reach other markets like the US. An older model from the collaboration with the Surfrider Foundation, G5600SRF-1, is available in this region for $150 (Amazon via third party).
