Casio’s latest G-Lide surf watches, the GBX-100S-1JF and GBX-100S-2JF, are now officially available for purchase in Japan. First teased back in April and later opened for pre-orders, the models are built around a lightweight skeleton resin structure and topped with a stainless-steel bezel. They're part of the G-Shock GBX-100 series and are priced at ¥28,600 including tax, which converts to around $185 USD.
The new GBX-100S variants follow the familiar rectangular display format of the original GBX-100, but with a refreshed design. Both models use a transparent case - the 100S-1JF comes with a black resin band, while the 100S-2JF gets a blue strap. These straps are made of biomass plastic, similar to several other recent G-Shock models. The casing measures 50.9 x 46 x 14.7 mm and weighs 66 g.
What sets the GBX-100S apart is its focus on training and surfing features. It includes a built-in accelerometer for distance, speed, lap time, and pace tracking. For surfers, the watch supports tide graphs, moon phase info, and sunrise/sunset times - with around 3,300 tide points supported globally. The display is a high-contrast MIP LCD and offers auto light and afterglow functions.
The watches support Bluetooth syncing with the Casio Watches app, allowing automatic time correction, tide data updates, and training log storage. They’re water-resistant up to 20 ATM and run on a standard replaceable battery expected to last about two years.
While the watches are now available in Japan, Casio hasn’t confirmed a global release timeline. Until then, buyers outside Japan will likely have to rely on importers or wait for a regional launch.
