NVIDIA Tegra 250

The NVIDIA Tegra 250 is a SOC (System on a Chip) of the Tegra 2 (T20/AP20H) series. It contains a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, a GeForce ULP graphics card, a DDR2 memory controller, video de- and encoders, a dedicated audio processor and an additional ARM7 core for power saving and management work.

The processing core contains two ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore cores without NEON SIMD Instructions (Single Instruction Multiple Data). Each core is clocked up to 1 GHz but the performance per MHz is significantly slower than x86 processors like Atom or AMD C-Series. 

The integrated GeForce ULP graphics card offers 8 cores (4 pixel- and 4 vertex shaders) and is clcoked with 300 (AP20H) or 333 MHz. Rumors speak of a relation to the old GeForce 7 architecture. The graphics card has no dedicated memory (uses shared memory). It supports OpenGL ES 2.0 as an interface for programmers. Up to two displays can be used simultaneously (one HDMI with up to 1080p and an internal with up to 1680x1050).

Video de- and encoding is also handled by separate processors, that are capable of decoding H.264 (Main Profile), Sorenson and VP6-E (Flash codecs) and encoding 1080p H.264. Furthermore a dedicated music en- and decoder is also on-board.

The integrated single channel 32 Bit DDR2 memory controller supports up to 1 GB of DDR2-667 or LPDDR2-600.

The Nvidia Tegra 250 is manufactured in 40nm at TSMC and is rumored to have a TDP of 0.5-1W. Therefore it is suited for small tablets and even large phones.
