Reviews for the LG Optimus Pad V900

86% Review LG V900 Optimus Pad Tablet/MID | Notebookcheck
1, 2, or 3D? LG highlights innovations with the V900 Optimus Pad. The 8.9 inch, handy tablet can create and play three dimensional videos. The pad also scores with a brilliant IPS screen. The LG product is also interesting in view of its price. It's supposed to cost 800 euros with a 32 GB memory and 3G module.

Until the price falls, then, we’d urge you look elsewhere. For a quality compact Android tablet, the HTC Flyer represents far better value, and for a larger screened tablet the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 knocks spots off it in most departments.

But then there’s the price: £750. Yes, you do get a 3G modem for that money, but even so, that’s a staggeringly optimistic amount of money. If the Optimus Pad were a staggeringly impressive tablet, fair enough, but it’s not. It’s good, but not that good.

Ultimately LG has failed here. It has added technology that’s not needed and made a device that’s likely to be overlooked by many. There are just better Honeycomb experiences on the market.

We really like the LG Optimus Pad: it’s quick, portable and intuitive to use. However while we applaud LG for striking out and including a feature as unique as 3D, it won’t have universal appeal and it is bound to push up the price. LG has yet to announce pricing, but it’s available for £699 online, which seems a huge premium to pay – especially considering you can get the Asus Eee Pad Transformer for £379.

LG Optimus Pad review: Hands on
Source: T3 English Archive.org version
LG, however, has opted for something right in the middle, and so the screen on their new LG Optimus Pad is a comfortable 8.9-inch display, which LG reckon is perfectly balanced for watching movies and holding with one hand. The design of the Optimus Pad is very familiar, with the standard black bezel surrounding the display. Beneath the glossy black shell lurks a dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

NVIDIA GeForce ULP (Tegra 2): In Tegra 3 SoC integrated ultra low power GPU. Depending on the model clocked at 300 to 400 MHz.

These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

2 (250): SoC (System on a Chip) with a integrated Corex A9 Dual-Core, GeForce ULP and other dedicated subprocessors (Audio, Video).» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

8.90":

Large smartphones and a few small tablets are available for this display size. Unlike most smartphones, you can see more on the screen, more details and use larger resolutions. Such formats are better for people with defective vision. However, such devices are no longer easy to fit in a pocket, and they are probably not quite light either.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

LG:

LG Electronics Inc. is a subsidiary of LG Group. It is a South Korean company and was founded as Goldstar Co, Ltd, in 1958. The group offers products in the fields of information technology, consumer electronics and mobile communications, and home appliances. LG Electronics is the world's third largest home appliance manufacturer. As a notebook manufacturer, LG only became known to a wider audience in the German-speaking market in 2005. After a few years, LG largely withdrew from the laptop sector. The product range includes OLED, LED/LCD and plasma TVs, home theater systems, Blu-ray players as well as audio and video players.

68.75%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
