Buyers have plenty of 16-inch gaming laptops to consider, with the Maingear Super 16 as the latest candidate. The Super 16 avoids sacrificing multi-core performance with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor. Featuring the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti GPU, gamers will enjoy 300Hz visuals on a 1600p screen.

Announced at IFA 2025, Maingear is expanding its gaming laptop lineup, adding to the already competitive 16-inch market. The high-performance Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor powers the new Super 16. With the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti GPU, its 1600p display supports a maximum 300Hz refresh rate to entice competitive gamers.

The Super 16 is now available with 32GB DDR5 memory and a 2TB SSD for $2,399. However, like most Maingear PCs, buyers can customize the laptop with up to 96GB of RAM and additional storage.

While marketed as a gaming laptop, the Super 16 wouldn’t look out of place in classrooms or offices. Still, owners will find a backlit keyboard with four-zone RGB effects and a rear-mounted light bar. Maingear managed to keep its chassis relatively thin, preserving the portability of the 16-inch form factor.

An Esports focus for the Maingear Super 16

Rather than opting for a 4K OLED screen, the latest Maingear notebook ships with a 2500x1600 display. However, its brightness is more than adequate at 500 nits, with an emphasis on responsive gameplay. In addition to a 300Hz mode, G-Sync is supported to mitigate any screen tearing.

The choice of the RTX 5070 Ti should allow the Super 16 to realize high frame rates in many games. With the Blackwell GPU comes DLSS 4 and multi-frame generation offered by shooters like Borderlands 4.

Buyers concerned about multi-core performance may see the Core Ultra 9 275HX as an attractive option. The Intel CPU is reasonably power-efficient while handling intensive productivity and editing tasks. Maingear has installed a vapor cooling chamber with rear exhaust to deal with excess heat.

Connectivity on the Super 16 also seems generous, featuring a pair of Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, and a microSD card reader. Maingear combines WiFi 7 with 2.5GB Ethernet to accommodate mobile and at-home scenarios. The 16-inch gaming laptop employs Killer DoubleShot Pro to utilize both connections simultaneously.

At $2399, the Maingear Super 16 might struggle to convince buyers to downgrade from an RTX 5080 machine. Nevertheless, it offers generous upgradability and caters to buyers prioritizing gaming or productivity.

Do note that Maingear, like Eluktronics, Schenker/XMG and quite a few other brands, does not design/produce its laptops on its own, purchasing mostly complete systems from OEMs like Clevo and Tongfang instead.
