Huami launches the Amazfit GTR 2 smartwatch: Two editions with NFC, up to 38-day battery life, and blood oxygen detection from 999 yuan (US$147)

The Amazfit GTR 2 smartwatch has been launched and is now available for sale in China. Huami has released two variants of the second-generation GTR: There is the sports model and the classic version. The sports GTR 2 has a silicone strap and aluminum build while the slightly more expensive classic GTR 2 features a leather strap and steel case.

The Huami Amazfit GTR 2 is packed full of health-related technology. There is Huami’s BioTracker system for heart-rate monitoring and OyxgenBeats is onboard for blood oxygen measuring. The PAI system can analyze all the data to create a health assessment for the wearer. The GTR 2 also offers sleep monitoring, and it features 12 sports modes that will eventually be expanded to 90 modes. The GTR 2 is also waterproof to a depth of 50 m.

A 1.39-inch AMOLED screen is fitted into the Amazfit GTR 2 and the 471-mAh battery is capable of 14 days of life with normal use, although a power-saving mode can stretch that to an incredible 38 days of life. The usual smartphone synchronization is present and NFC is available where applicable. The sports edition of the GTR 2 costs 999 yuan (US$147) while the classic model is priced at 1,099 yuan (US$162). No international launch date for the smartwatch has been offered yet, but it is likely it will appear outside of the domestic market at some point.
