Galaxy Z Fold5: First look offered for Samsung's next-generation foldable
@OnLeaks and SmartPrix have partnered to provide a first look at the Galaxy Z Fold5, one of two foldable smartphones that Samsung is expected to release this summer. While the Galaxy Z Fold4 lacked a global rival, Oppo, Vivo and others elected against releasing competitors outside China, the Galaxy Z Fold5 is set to be rivalled by the Pixel Fold. Still, @OnLeaks renders confirm that the design of the Galaxy Z Fold has remained unchanged for another generation, arguably since the Galaxy Z Fold2.
According to @OnLeaks, the Galaxy Z Fold5 measures 154.9 x 129.9 x 6.3 mm when unfolded, down from its predecessor's 155.1 x 130.1 x 6.3 mm unfolded dimensions. The Galaxy Z Fold remains 67.1 mm wide when folded, but its thickness is now an even 13.5 mm, thanks to a new waterdrop hinge. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold4 tapered from 15.8 mm to 14.2 mm.
The Galaxy Z Fold5 is expected to be 9g lighter than its predecessor too. Other changes between generations are more subtle though, such as a relocated LED flash module. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will include newer cameras this year. However, the adoption of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset and its newer ISP could deliver minor camera performance improvements itself.
