Asus has brought a slew of new Republic of Gamers (ROG) hardware to this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including several next-generation gaming laptops. Buried among today's announcements is also a new ROG XG Mobile, which arguably represents a complete overhaul of the product line.
Specifically, the 2025 ROG XG Mobile does away with Asus' proprietary XG Mobile connector, which is present in the original ROG Ally (curr. $444.99 on Amazon) but not the newer ROG Ally X. Instead, the new ROG XG Mobile uses Thunderbolt 5 for up to 80 Gbit/s transfer speeds. Added to that, the 2025 ROG XG Mobile supports Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 connectivity for use with many modern gaming handhelds and laptops of all persuasions.
Additionally, Asus has equipped its latest external GPU (eGPU) with Nvidia's new GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU. As a result, the 2025 ROG XG Mobile is a non-upgradeable solution, unlike some of its contemporaries. Still, the inclusion of DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 connectivity should go a long way to futureproofing the device. On top of that, Asus has equipped its latest ROG XG Mobile with an SD Card reader and a pair of USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports, as well as a 5 Gigabit Ethernet port.
Furthermore, the new ROG XG Mobile is almost 20% smaller than its predecessor while also weighing less than 1 kg. Nonetheless, Asus boasts that the former runs 3 dB quieter than the latter. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when the 2025 ROG XG Mobile will be available to order, let alone for how much.
