Apple A18 Pro to fall flat in front of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 as marginal multi-core performance bump leaks
Fans of Apple silicon might be in for a rough 2024 when it comes to the iPhone 16 series as the latest A18 Pro multi-core performance leak paints a rather humbling picture when compared with the alleged performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and the Dimensity 9400.
The A18 Pro’s reported multi-threaded performance, which comes to us courtesy of Nguyen Phi Hung on X is “A17 Pro + 10%” in Geekbench 6.
Talking about numbers, the Apple A18 Pro could get about 7944 points in the Geekbench 6.2 multi-core test as our database indicates an average score of 7,222 for the A17 Pro. Compared to the current Snapdragon champions, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, the alleged A18 Pro multi-threaded performance is 12% faster. This is all good until we take into account the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is rumored to manage a Geekbench 6 multi-core score of 10,628, while the Dimensity 9400 reportedly could go as high as 11,739. Assuming both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and the Dimensity 9400 do 10,000 points, this would put the chips at a whopping 26% advantage vs the A18 Pro.
Coupled with the report that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 potentially beats the A18 Pro in the single-core as well as the GPU department, 2024 is shaping up to be the year when Apple silicon might finally play second fiddle to Android competition.
Fortunately, we don’t have to wait too long to find out for ourselves where the performance of the A18 Pro, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, and the Dimensity 9400 lands as the chips are expected to be official later this year.
