Anker eufyCam 3 kit goes to the Edge with a new AI-powered hub for machine learning-enabled facial recognition
Anker's increasingly popular residential security accessory brand eufy has released "camera kits" that revolve around a central wireless hub for their control and co-ordination before. However, the OEM asserts that its latest 3rd-gen iteration is the most powerful yet, as it integrates its in-house BionicMind AI this time around.
eufy claims that the AI can get to know the people (and even pets) that belong to a given household with "99% accuracy" thanks to machine learning. This can be done by 'teaching' the AI, housed in eufyCam 3's HomeBase, via its app, or by relying on BionicMind to get to know and classify individuals as visitors, family members or residents on its own by assessing and analyzing their video data over time.
Accordingly, eufy maintains that BionicMind's actual intruder-detection capabilities will be strengthened, yet "curated", over time. This, in turn, should help the Cam3 system achieve the ultimate aim of security cameras, which is to filter the notifications sent from the HomeBase more to the highest, most effective and specific degree. Plus, it should spare the hub's local storage by avoiding indiscriminate video saves.
That footage will be captured by the dual cameras that come with each kit as standard. They are rated with some of the most up-to-date outdoor home-grade specs, color night vision, motion detection and an IP67 rating included.
All those potentially super-smart new "edge security" features don't come cheap, though: this complete eufyCam 3 kit has started at US$549.99 via channels such as Amazon. Happily enough, eufy ships each HomeBase (which also has its own quad-ARM Cortex-A55 core processor, 1GB of RAM and, of course, its 1-TOP NPU) with 16GB of internal storage.
Anker estimates that this "free storage" will contain about 3 months' worth of surveillance. The user can also expand on it themselves with either HDDs or SSDs of up to 1TB in size, although they will have to supply their own drive at that stage. The HomeBase is also rated for 256-bit encryption for the data stored on it.
This is particularly handy, as each eufyCam 3 is 4K and, furthermore, integrates its own solar panel that might keep its 13,400mAh battery on indefinitely in certain environments. This latest "smart security" system is available in the US and EU from now, with a release in other markets such as Australia to follow.
