iPhone Air arrives with A19 Pro chip, $999 price tag, 256 GB base storage, titanium frame, and a 48-MP main camera

The iPhone Air was expected to arrive with the Apple A19 chip, not the Pro model, which doesn't just promise more performance but also greater efficiency. The iPhone Air's thin design is also possible because Apple engineers moved some components into the camera bar, which is now extended to the right, although it now only contains a single 48-megapixel camera. It is of course thin, at 5.6 mm.

6.5-inch display and “all-day” battery life

The iPhone Air features a 6.5-inch XDR ProMotion AMOLED display with a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. It comes with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and the Ceramic Shield on the back, which are said to offer three times greater scratch resistance and four times greater crack resistance respectively. The casing is made of 80% recycled grade 5 titanium, which should contribute to the strength of the thin iPhone. The iPhone Air also arrives with the new Apple C1X modem and the new Apple N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 7 connectivity. Despite the extremely thin casing, the battery should last a full day — at least that's Apple's promise. However, the iPhone Air will only be available worldwide as an eSIM-only phone.

48 megapixel Fusion camera and Center Stage front camera

Many new camera features from the base iPhone 17 model are also found in the iPhone Air, such as the side-mounted camera controls and the new Center Stage front camera with a square sensor. The selfie camera is an 18-megapixel. Thanks to Dual Capture, you can record simultaneously with both the selfie camera and the rear camera. The latter, by the way, is the same 48-megapixel Fusion camera found in the iPhone 17, with 2x zoom and 4K60 Dolby Vision.

Pricing and availability

Pre-orders for the iPhone Air will open on September 12, and it will become available on September 19. The base model is priced at $999, the 512 GB model at $1,199, and the 1 TB model at $1,399. It will be available in four colorways: light gold, sky blue, cloud white, and space black.
