Apple is projected to launch a new SE version of the iPhone in 2025. Now, the device is also believed to be the first of its series to launch with mobile data powered by an in-house chipset rather than one from Qualcomm as usual. The alleged Slim version of the iPhone 17 is expected to follow in its footsteps shortly thereafter.

Apple's reportedly long-held ambition to make its mobile devices as first-party as possible with own-brand modems will come to fruition in 2025 - albeit gradually. The widely-regarded securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now asserts that 2 specific models from the opposite ends of the affordability spectrum will become the first-ever iPhones with in-house 5G next year.

The technology is tipped to be exclusive to the iPhone SE 4 initially in early (January to March) 2025, but will also become available in the "17 Slim" from the third quarter of the year.

Both devices are believed to be unique in other ways: the SE 4 is projected to become the first 'modern' flat-edged iPhone with a single rear camera, whereas the 17 Slim might, as the name suggests, be thinner than the average top-end Apple handset, yet may also integrate cutting-edge materials such as titanium to knock the Pro Max variant off its perch at the top of the premium tier.

On that note, even the 17 Pro series is forecast to stick with as devices with 5G from Qualcomm as Apple works through its stock of modem-RF systems it agreed to keep buying from the chip giant until 2026.
