Even though the iPhone 16 is yet to hit shelves, the rumour mill has started churning out leaks about its successor. Well-known leaker Ice Universe has some interesting information about the iPhone 17 lineup. For starters, it will include four SKUs: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The iPhone 17 Slim is essentially a replacement for Plus-branded SKUs and will launch with a 6.65-inch screen. Like previous generations, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro will stick to a compact 6.26-inch screen. Lastly, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will launch with a colossal 6.86-inch screen. This time, all four SKUs will use an LTPO panel clocked at 120 Hz; something that has been teased extensively in the past.
Next up, Apple continues with its dual-AP strategy, with the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Ultra slated to launch with an A19 chip. It will finally get 8 GB of RAM, hopefully allowing it to run Apple Intelligence features natively. Exact camera specifics are unknown, but it will keep a two-lens layout and stick with an aluminium chassis.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max get an A19 Pro SoC, 12 GB of RAM and three 48 MP camera sensors and a ToF sensor for good measure. It is unclear as to what makes the Apple A19 Pro superior, but it will apparently be manufactured on TSMC's N3P node, and not N2 as speculated by an earlier leak. Like the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Galaxy S24 Ultra, both phones will come with a titanium body
Other features common to the entire iPhone 17 lineup include a USB-C port, Dynamic Island with Face ID, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon mode. The leak also discusses prices, and they look rather suspect.
- iPhone 17: $799
- iPhone 17 Pro: $1,099
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: $1,199
- iPhone 17 Slim: $1,299
Exactly why one would pay an extra $500 for objectively inferior hardware remains a mystery, especially when you can get a top-spec model for $100 less. Then again, an earlier leak sang praises of the iPhone 17 Slim's redesign. But it is far too early in the launch cycle to mention prices, and these will almost certainly get revised at some point.
