Recent reports suggest Apple may introduce an anti-reflective display with enhanced scratch resistance for upcoming iPhones, possibly in the iPhone 17. Building on the Ceramic Shield technology from the current iPhones, collaborations between Apple and Corning might hint at similarities with Samsung's S24 Ultra's anti-reflective panel.

According to a recent report making rounds on Weibo from reliable Chinese leaker Instant Digital, Apple may introduce a new anti-reflective display for its upcoming iPhone models, which is expected to offer enhanced scratch resistance.

Apple's current lineup of iPhone models boasts a ceramic-infused glass display, marketed as "Ceramic Shield", introduced with the iPhone 12 in 2020. It involves embedding nano-ceramic crystals into the outer glass used for the device's display. The Ceramic Shield is designed to provide enhanced resistance to drops and impacts, thereby reducing the probability of the display shattering or cracking upon universally feared accidental falls.

Instant Digital suggests that the outer glass of the iPhone 17's display will incorporate a "super hard reflective layer", potentially rendering it more resistant to scratches. However, despite being supplied to manufacturers, this feature reportedly missed the deadline for inclusion in the iPhone 16, and is instead expected to be paired with next year's iPhone 17.

Notably, as highlighted by MacRumors, Samsung's latest offering, the S24 Ultra, features a Gorilla Glass Display Panel from Corning, which reduces reflections by 75% compared to conventional glass surfaces and boasts 4X the scratch resistance of competing panels. Since Corning has been a key collaborator with Apple in the development of the Ceramic Shield utilized in iPhones, it's possible that the iPhone 17's rumored anti-reflective display might share similarities with the panel seen in the S24 Ultra.
