Several leaks, including a recent YouTube video from Unbox Therapy, highlight how slim the iPhone 17 Air could be. It is said to be just 5.5mm, making it the thinnest iPhone ever. Now, a new leak showing dummy units of the entire iPhone 17 lineup emphasizes how incredibly slim the phone will be, especially compared to the other models. The buttons on the sides seem to have been resized to fit the ultra-thin sides of the phone.
Leaker SonnyDickson shared a few images on X for what are believed to be dummy units of the iPhone 17 lineup. Among them is the iPhone 17 Air and upon first glance, it looks to be half the thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro Max dummy unit. The images show the sides and the bottom of the phones, along with the buttons and the USB Type-C port. It looks like the power button, Camera Control, volume, and Action buttons on the iPhone 17 Air have been slimmed down to fit the expected 5.5mm thickness.
Even with the slimmer buttons, they seem to take up most of the thickness of the phone, and so does the USB Type-C port at the bottom. The port, however, seems to be somewhat misaligned and is closer to the back of the phone. Of course, these are dummy units so they might not be 100% accurate to the final product. The other three models seem to have centrally aligned USB Type-C ports.
Furthermore, the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro, possibly iPhone 17, dummy units seem to have a SIM tray unlike the other two. Seeing as how slim the Air is, it’s no surprise that there is no physical SIM card slot. Notably, iPhone 16 series does not have physical SIM card slots in the US, but phones sold in other markets support physical SIM cards.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series in September including the iPhone 17 Air which will be replacing the Plus model.
