CES 2024 | ASUS updates Fanless Chromebox mini-PC with new CF40 model for commercial uses

ASUS has provided preliminary details about the Fanless Chromebox CF40, one of several mini-PCs that it has brought to CES 2024 alongside the NUC 14 Pro, NUC 14 Pro Plus and ROG NUC. For context, the Fanless Chromebox CF40 builds on the Fanless Chromebox with a familiar design. As the images below show, ASUS has replaced the device-wide heat sink that was present in the original Fanless Chromebox with a smaller and subtler vent.

Additionally, ASUS has added a third front-facing USB Type-A port, but these are now all 5 Gbps ports. Moreover, this third USB Type-A port comes at the cost of a front-mounted MicroSD card slot. For some reason, ASUS has repositioned the power button too, which is also now only about the size of one of its exposed front-facing screws.

Furthermore, the company has brought the Fanless Chromebox onto the Intel Jasper Lake platform with the Celeron N4500. While the Celeron N4500 is almost three years old, ASUS has offered the Fanless Chromebox with even older Comet Lake processors until this point. With that being said, the Core i7-10510U in the current Fanless Chromebox is significantly more powerful than the Celeron N4500 in its successor. Unfortunately, ASUS has not confirmed pricing or availability yet, although a product site should soon be live.
