Minisforum officially showcased the super compact EM780 mini PC on Computex in February of this year. It’s a successor to the EM680, which debuted with the Zen3+ Ryzen 7 6800U. As an updated mini computer, the newer model brings Zen4 Ryzen 7 7840U with AMD Radeon 780M iGPU.
The interesting part is that the mini PC packs the 8-core AMD APU in a housing capable of fitting into pockets. To be precise, the Minisforum EM780 features a 0.25-liter chassis and measures 8 x 8 x 4 cm.
Minisforum has yet to reveal the other specs of the mini PC, but it’s expected to be the same as the EM680. That means the EM780 mini desktop will feature up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM running at 6400 MHz. Considering the compact nature of the computer, the RAM is soldered, and there’s no M.2 2280 slot either. Instead, it comes with an M.2 2230 slot compatible with PCIe Gen4 (SABRENT Rocket 2230 1 TB curr. $90 on Amazon).
Besides, the last-generation mini PC had a good number of ports. It featured two USB4 Type-C, one HDMI 2.1, one 3.5 mm audio, one microSD, and three USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports. As showcased earlier this year, the port selection on the Minisforum EM780 will be similar.
Regarding the cooling setup, the EM780 mini PC has an active cooler with a dedicated heatsink. It’s also worth noting that Minisforum covers the APU with liquid metal, which should make it offer stable performance during high loads. Pricing is yet to be revealed, but the EM680 with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage is currently $423.99 on Amazon.
