Donald Trump’s tariff war has already driven up the prices of many popular tech products in the US. After Nintendo raised the price of the original Switch and Sony bumped all PS5 models by $50 last month, Casio’s popular watches are the latest casualty.
Casio has quietly increased the prices of nearly all watches in the US. We are looking at a roughly 10% hike across many of the most popular Casio and G-Shock models, and it’s already live on casio.com. For example, the classic DW-5600BB-1 and GA-2100-1A1 both went from $100 to $110, while the GMAP2100PC series, which arrived in July, will set you back $120 (up from $110). Meanwhile, the GBM-2100-1A is now $280 (prev. $250), and the GW-5000U-1 is $30 more expensive at $330. Authorized US retailers like Reeds Jewelers and Fred Meyer have also updated their storefronts with the new pricing, but for some reason, Rogers and Hollands and Zales are still offering the old prices.
The premium tier got hit hardest. The titanium square MRG-B5000D-1 now costs $4,000 (prev. $3,500), and the MRG-B5000R-1 is now $500 more expensive at $3,500. And then there’s Casio’s flagship diver, the Frogman MRG-BF1000B-1A, which is now selling for $6,500 after a $700 increase. Even the humble retro A158WA-1 couldn’t escape, ticking up from $26.97 to $29.95.
New pricing for some of the most popular watches:
- DW-5600BB-1: $100 → $110 (10%)
- GWM5610-1: $150 → $165 (10%)
- GA-2100-1A1: $100 → $110 (10%)
- GBM-2100-1A: $250 → $280 (12%)
- GW-5000U-1 $300 → $330 (10%)
- GMAP2100PC: $110 → $120 (9.1%)
- GM-2100-1A: $200 → $220 (10%)
- MRG-B5000D-1: $3500 → $4000 (14.3%)
- MRG-B5000R-1: $3100 → $3500 (12.9%)
- MRG-BF1000B-1A: $5800 → $6500 (12.1%)
- Casio A158WA-1: $28 → $29.95 (7.0%)
As G-Central points out, long-discounted models aren’t safe either, with models like the GWM-5610U-1, which has historically hovered around $100, climbing as high as $150 on Amazon in recent weeks. It’s currently available for $132, but that’s still 30% more than its usual price.
Of course, a 10% hike isn’t going to scare off hardcore fans, and you can still find plenty of models on sale. But yeah, if you’ve been eyeing a new Casio or G-Shock, you’ll be paying more than you would have just a couple of weeks ago.
