A tentative rumour suggests that a new Sony camera other than the A6700 will be launched in the start of 2024. While the name of the camera is not yet known, it appears that it will have a 26.1-MP APS-C sensor and a compact, vlogging-friendly body. The rest of the spec sheet also appears to be perfect for content creators, with five-axis IBIS rearing its head once more. The camera is supposed to launch in early 2024.

Sony appears to be hitting the vlogging and content creation space hard, with the upcoming launch of the Sony Alpha 6700 rumoured rumoured for July 12, 2023. Looking a little further ahead, though, a new rumour, shared by The New Camera, posits that Sony will launch yet another compact APS-C camera in the first quarter of 2024. While it's still early days, the rumour suggests that this camera will either be called the ZV-E100 or the FX10.

An FX10 might serve as a more affordable entry to the mirrorless cinema world, while a ZV-E100 might slot in under the Sony ZV-E10 as a cheaper version of Sony's creator-centric APS-C hybrid camera. It wouldn't make much sense for there to be an even cheaper version of the ZV-E10, since the ZV-E10 is well under US$700, so perhaps a ZV-E100 could bridge the gap between the ZV-E10 and the full-frame ZV-E1 and A7C. This is unlikely, considering how the leaked specifications stack up against the ZV-E10.

Some of the rumoured specifications for the upcoming camera include:

  • 26.1-MP, APS-C BSI CMOS sensor.
  • AI-based tracking autofocus.
  • BIONZ XR image processor.
  • Uncropped 4K 60p video with S-Log3 and 4:2:2 10-bit recording.
  • Five-axis in-body image stabilisation.

Those specifications point to a powerful camera, indeed, but it will be interesting to see where it fits in in Sony's line-up, given the existence of cameras like the A6600 and ZV-E10, which serve the mid-range and entry-level content creator market fairly well.

The rumoured camera's sensor specifications indicate that it's more likely to make it to market as an FX camera, since the FX30 has the same 26.1-MP BSI sensor, although that camera has more advanced video features. On the other hand, a higher-resolution sensor in a body like the ZV-E10 could set the new camera up as a solid entry-level hybrid camera.
