We've seen rumours about an upcoming Sony Alpha a6700 compact APS-C mirrorless camera for a while now, with a limited spec sheet even being revealed earlier this year. A new rumour now hints that the a6700 will ship with 6K video chops, setting it up as a competent vlogging camera. If the price of the current a6600 is any indication, the Fujifilm X-S20 should be stiff competition for the a6700.

It has been known for some time now that Sony is planning on releasing an Alpha a6700 premium compact APS-C camera aimed squarely at the hybrid creator crowd. We've even had a steady stream of rumours that have more or less confirmed a July 12 announcement date. A new rumour, shared by Sony Rumors, suggests that the a6700 will ship with 6K 30p video to contend with the current crop of creator-focussed compact APS-C mirrorless cameras on the market.

The 6K 30p video is but the latest addition to a set of rumours that claim the a6700 will ship with a 26-MP BSI APS-C sensor and an AI-capable BIONZ XR image processor. All of this hardware could equip the a6700 with specifications like 4K 120p video, five-axis in-body image stabilisation, and 700+ AF points, making it a significant upgrade over the current-generation a6600 that tops out at 4K 30p video.

The recently-announced Fujifilm X-S20 should put up a proper fight against the proposed a6700, although, there are a few areas where the Sony might outpace the Fuji. The X-S20 appeals to video creators with 6.2K 30p 4:2:2 10-bit internal video recording and neat features like dual USB Type-C ports for charging, video streaming, and data transfer. While the X-S20 would technically outdo the Sony in terms of video resolution, the alleged specs for the Sony a6700 also point to 4K 120p video, which is a significant upgrade over the X-S20's 4K 60p limit.

The current-generation Sony a6600 launched with an MSRP of US$1,400, and Sony's recent ZV-1 II launched with a US$100 price increase over the first-generation ZV-1 — a roughly 12.5% increase. This gives us some idea of what to expect in terms of pricing for the a6700. If the same price increase comes to the a6700, it could launch somewhere in the region of US$1,500 to US$1,750. That's a far cry from the US$1,299 Fujifilm X-S20, which appears to be a very similar camera, with the exception of 4K 120p video.

That said, no pricing for the Sony a6700 has been rumoured or leaked, so until we see the camera launch, it's impossible to make any solid predictions about value propositions or competition.
