Alleged specifications for the next update to DJI's GoPro-killer OSMO Action camera have leaked on Twitter, and the spec sheet indicates an incremental, but not insignificant, update to the affordable action camera's hardware. 4K 120 FPS video makes a return, but a larger 1/1.3-inch sensor promises to let in substantially more light than its predecessor.

DJI is known for its camera accessories, drones, and compact, affordable action cameras. While the company has not announced anything concrete about its next-generation OSMO Action 4 camera, the alleged specifications have been leaked on Twitter by @camerainsider. The proposed leaked specifications paint a picture of a significant hardware update behind a minor feature upgrade.

For the most part the specifications look very similar to the outgoing OSMO Action 3 camera, with a 155° field of view, a maximum video resolution of 4K 120 FPS, and an aperture of f/2.8. One intriguing detail that may result in a substantial improvement to low-light performance, though, is the new sensor size.

The alleged OSMO Action 4 spec sheet indicates that the new camera will come with a 1/1.3-inch sensor. Compared to the outgoing 1/1.7-inch unit, that's a welcome 69% increase in sensor surface area. This increase in sensor size means that the new camera should perform much better in low-light scenarios, despite the same f/2.8 aperture. Close-up shots should also provide more background separation, although this is unlikely to be an important consideration for prospective action camera buyers.

Other miscellaneous improvements include a two-metre increase in the case-free waterproofing rating — from 16 m (52.5 feet) to 18 m (59 feet) — while the weight is slated to stay around the same 145g mark.

DJI itself shared a teaser of a July 25 product launch on YouTube, indicating that a new product with a dual-display or dual-sensor configuration will arrive on the specified date. The teaser is deliberately vague, but it could be for the Action 4 or the upcoming Air 3 drone, with the latter seeming more likely, since the person in the video teaser seems to be holding a remote control. It's not impossible that DJI would release an action camera around this time of year, but it has historically launched them closer to October.
