Word on the grapevine claims Xiaomi is set to present an in-house chipset soon. According to a new leak, however, that chipset, "Xring", can be expected to deliver significantly worse performance than current-gen flagship silicon from Qualcomm and MediaTek.

Xiaomi is widely reported to be readying a new chipset built with its in-house design. The chipset, codenamed "Xring", has been spotted in company code and is expected to debut shortly. Ahead of that, however, its details have now emerged in a new leak.

As shared by WhyLab, Xring is expected to perform on a similar level as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Qualcomm's flagship chipset from 2022. That indicates "Xring" could be a chipset not dissimilar to Google's Tensor lineup. Ergo, an SoC that doesn't prioritize raw performance.

The leak claims "Xring" will be built on TSMC's 4nm node, and will feature a 1+3+4 core configuration with one prime core running at 3.2 GHz, three performance cores at 2.5 GHz, and four efficiency cores at 2.0 GHz. Supposedly, those details are "subject to confirmation by Xiaomi", and so may not quite be definitive.

It remains unknown what device "Xring" will power. Most sources claim the chipset will debut aboard the Xiaomi 15S Pro, however. That phone is expected to be something of a special edition release for the Chinese market exclusively, and has also been tipped to share most of its hardware with the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered Xiaomi 15 Pro

Xring itself appears to be a certainty at this point. A matter of when, not if. Merch for Xiaomi's 15th anniversary recently leaked, with the shirt having a list of what appears to be talking points at the event, with Xiaomi HyperOS, Xring, Xiaomi EV, Xiaomi, and Redmi all listed.
