Xiaomi teases new ECG and blood pressure tracking smartwatch

A new Xiaomi smartwatch, currently called the Wrist ECG and Blood Pressure Recorder, has been teased on social media. This is the first wearable of its kind from the company, with medical device certification in China. The watch’s bracelet mimics a regular blood pressure cuff for accurate readings.
Biotech Wearable Smartwatch

Xiaomi has teased its first blood pressure smartwatch, currently named the Xiaomi Wrist ECG and Blood Pressure Recorder. The ECG smartwatch has been developed in collaboration with the Peking University Third Hospital and is certified as a Class II medical device in China.

The wearable has a similar design to the Huawei Watch D, using a high-pressure sensor, micro air pump and inflating air bag to mimic a traditional blood pressure cuff. Xiaomi claims this method results in precise measurements, accurate to within 3mmHg. Unlike the blood pressure sensor in the Samsung Galaxy Watch6, users do not need to calibrate the sensor with another device. Data collected by the ECG wearable will be viewable on the watch and in the Xiaomi app, where you can track changes over time. The premium smartwatch has other health tracking features, monitoring your heart rate, blood oxygen level and skin temperature. You can also use the wearable to track your sleep, respiration and menstrual cycle.

The new Xiaomi Wrist ECG and Blood Pressure Recorder will be officially unveiled in China on October 26 at a news conference, where the Xiaomi Watch S3 and Xiaomi 14 will also debut. It remains to be seen whether the wearable will launch in other markets and if the company is will seek the relevant clearance for the medical device.
