Xiaomi shows Redmi Watch 5 Lite with AMOLED display, GPS, Alexa and swim tracking
The Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5 Active was first announced in August, and the Redmi Watch 5 Lite will join the manufacturer's portfolio on Wednesday, September 25. Despite the "Lite" designation, this is likely to be a slightly more expensive model, as Xiaomi is replacing the 2-inch IPS panel with a 1.96-inch AMOLED display and adding a GPS module to the smartwatch.
This means that the distance covered while running or cycling can be recorded even without the smartphone. Another feature that cannot be taken for granted in this price range: the Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5 Lite is not only IP68-certified, but also water-resistant up to 5 ATM, meaning the watch can be worn while swimming, with Xiaomi even supporting a swimming workout.
Thanks to the integrated speakers and microphones calls can be made directly via the smartwatch as long as the paired smartphone is within Bluetooth range. Users can also use Amazon Alexa to control smart home devices, set timers, or create calendar entries. Thanks to Xiaomi HyperOS, the smartwatch should work seamlessly with Xiaomi smartphones.
The Redmi Watch 5 Lite is expected to achieve the same battery life as the Redmi Watch 5 Active, i.e. 18 days of normal use. The design hardly changes either, apart from the case finish, as the Redmi Watch 5 Lite is glossy instead of matte. The watch only has a single button on the right-hand side of the case. The launch price of the smartwatch hasn't been announced yet.
