Xiaomi officially announces first foldable powered by flagship Xring O3

Xiaomi has unrolled the curtains on its new in-house SoC, the Xring O3. As we detailed in a separate coverage, it's positioned as a proper flagship chipset, set to go against the likes of the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and Dimensity 9600 Pro.

Alongside detailing the flagship SoC, Xiaomi has also announced one of the first devices that will be powered by it. It's the Xiaomi 18 Fold, which was previously believed to be called the Mix Fold.

While the company didn't share anything about the foldable phone in the event, it did make a silent debut during the Xiaomi HyperOS 4 showcase. A render of a wide folding phone was shown, which is now believed to be the Xiaomi 18 fold.

The company's CEO, Lei Jun, was recently spotted holding a foldable phone, and while much of it was covered, a closer look at the picture reveals that the folding phone will sport a relatively slim design. For reference, the competing Galaxy Z Fold 8 (available on Amazon with a free $350 gift card) measures 4.5mm when unfolded, and to come to the headlines in terms of thickness, the Xiaomi 18 Fold needs to be thinner.

Lei Jun's picture also confirms that the foldable phone will be offered in Burgundy Red, but no official specs have surfaced yet. Previous reports suggested that the smartphone will feature a 6,000mAh battery with support for wireless charging, a 200MP primary camera on the back, and a 7.6-inch folding display.

On the bright side, at the event, Xiaomi has confirmed that the launch of the folding phone is set for September 2026, which is around the corner. The company is expected to share more about the device through upcoming teasers.
