CXMT says its LPDDR6 memory has entered mass production, and Xiaomi is set to become the first smartphone maker to use it. The Xiaomi 18 Fold and Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max will use the said memory modules alongside the company's new Xring O3 SoC.

Through its shiny new Weibo account, CXMT has officially confirmed that its LPDDR6 memory has entered mass production, and we could see it in action within a few weeks. The Chinese memory manufacturer said the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold will debut with its LPDDR6 memory modules alongside the Xring O3 SoC when the foldable launches in September.

Xiaomi founder Lei Jun subsequently confirmed the partnership via his own Weibo account. It won’t be the only device, though, because the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max is also expected to launch with the same SoC/memory module combination. Xiaomi unveiled the Xring O3 processor earlier this week as its current-gen flagship offering.

A previous leak stated Xiaomi 18 Fold is slated to debut with a 6,000mAh battery and wireless charging, a 200MP primary rear camera, and a 7.6-inch display. Other specs will likely follow suit in the coming weeks.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is also tipped to launch with LPDDR6 memory, but it will likely use solutions from SK Hynix/Samsung/Micron. The Xring O3 is manufactured on TSMC’s 3 nm process, putting it one node behind the competition, which is said to leverage TSMC's N2P node.

LPDDR6 succeeds LPDDR5/LPDDR5X with substantially more memory bandwidth and improved efficiency. CXMT's implementation runs at 10,667 MT/s with the Xring O3 and can reach up to 12,800 MT/s, while the LPDDR6 standard itself supports speeds of up to 14,400 MT/s. Its wider 24-bit interface also increases throughput compared with LPDDR5X, making it particularly useful for bandwidth-heavy workloads such as on-device AI and integrated graphics.
