Xiaomi is now selling the Watch S2 in China, having revealed the smartwatch earlier this week. Currently, the company only offers the Watch S1 and Watch S1 Active globally, with the Watch S1 Pro apparently a Chinese exclusive. While Xiaomi has not confirmed when its latest smartwatch will be available in other markets, the global launch of the Watch S1 and Watch S1 Active alongside the Xiaomi 12 series suggests that the Watch S2 will make an appearance again earlier next year with the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro.
The Watch S2 comes in two sizes and two finishes per size. As expected, the Watch S2 has arrived in 42 mm and 46 mm variants, with Xiaomi distinguishing the pair by different battery and display sizes. According to Xiaomi, the 42 mm variant will last up to 3 days with its always-on display (AOD) active, compared to 4 days for the 46 mm variant. For reference, Xiaomi equips the 42 mm mod l with a 305 mAh battery but installs a 500 mAh battery in the 46 mm edition.
Similarly, the 42 mm variant contains a 1.32-inch AMOLED display, 0.11-inches smaller than the 1.43-inch AMOLED alternative in its 46 mm sibling. However, both displays operate at 466 x 46 pixels, which results in the 42 mm version having a sharper display than the larger edition. Still, the Watch S2 should reach 600 nits, regardless of the model chosen, and offers 5 ATM water resistance.
Xiaomi has included the usual array of health monitoring sensors too, as well as GNSS and NFC connectivity. Additionally, the Watch S2 series can provide body composition analysis, much like the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch5 series. The Watch S2 starts at CNY 999 (~US$143) as a 42 mm smartwatch with a black silicone strap and rises to CNY 1,099 (~US$158) for the 46 mm version with the same strap colour. Alternatively, Xiaomi sells the Watch S2 with leather straps, which retail for CNY 1,199 (~US$172) and CNY 1,299 (~US$186) for the 42 mm and 46 mm variants, respectively.
