The Masimo W1 smartwatch has officially received a new Hydration Index (Hi) feature. The tool, revealed earlier this year, was previously shared with a limited number of users but is now available to all. Hi enables you to find your hydration baseline and, more broadly, understand your hydration level and how this affects your performance. The company suggests that this feature could be helpful for athletes, vocalists or those keen to understand more about their health.
The technology was initially developed to allow medical professionals to track the fluid responsiveness of patients on mechanical ventilation. Masimo claims that the W1 is the first smartwatch to offer accurate 24/7 pulse oximetry measurements, providing readings of your blood oxygen level. You can also use the wearable to track your pulse rate, heart rate and respiration rate or your sleep health.
You can pair the device to your smartphone via Bluetooth to view health insights in the accompanying Masimo Health app. The watch face is 40 mm (~1.6-in) wide and covered with a durable Corning Gorilla Glass 3 lens. According to the company, the gadget can last for up to 24 hours on a single charge, fully recharging in around three hours. You can currently buy the Masimo W1 smartwatch for US$499.
