Google has announced a new update for Wear OS, which should reach the Pixel Watch first before the end of the year. Unfortunately, the company has not outlined when other OEMs like Samsung will introduce these December 2022 features, with Google freeing itself this year of delivering OS updates to Wear OS smartwatches. Some of the changes described in Google's blog post could arrive by way of Google Play Store app updates though, such as the Weather app gaining a new tile.
As the screenshot below highlights, Google has added a tile outlining sunrise and sunset times, which it has decked out with its Material You design language. Likewise, the People app has picked up a new tile for displaying up to five contacts and their corresponding avatars simultaneously. The Google Keep has received a Material You makeover too, with photos and drawings now visible, as well as more lines of text. Previously, Google Keep could only show two lines of text and a photo preview.
Additionally, Google has added user icons within a note if multiple people have edited it, as shown below. The new Google Assistant app also integrates the Adidas Running app, which should allow you to start a run with a voice command rather than opening the app. Currently, the new feature can access more than 30 exercise types, although Google has not provided a comprehensive list yet. Please see Google's blog post for the company's full Wear OS changes and optimisations.
