Xiaomi Mi Max 3 picks up an encouraging MIUI 11 update
Xiaomi upgraded the Mi Max 3 to Android 9.0 Pie builds of MIUI 11 in October, but the company is now testing Android 10 builds on the device. Spotted by Piunikaweb, the Snapdragon 636-powered handset appeared on the devices list of MIUI 9.12.4, the latest China beta of MIUI 11. According to Xiaomi Europe forums, not affiliated with Xiaomi, the Mi Max 3 joins the likes of the Mi Mix 3, Mi 8 Lite and Mi 9 on Android 10 builds.
Please note that Chinese betas do not come with Google Play Services pre-installed, so you will need to sideload these if you use them. The 2.1 GB build from here if you are keen on trying Android 10 on your Mi Max 3. Piunikaweb notes that the default System Updater will ask for verified account details if you flash the build using it, but installing it via TWRP will bypass this issue. We cannot comment on the accuracy of this, though.
While we would not recommend flashing any beta on your daily driver, the appearance of Android 10 builds of MIUI 11 for the Mi Max 3 suggests that they should make their way to the Global Stable branch in due time. We have no timeline on this, but we doubt that they will arrive before the new year.
