The Xiaomi 16 series may be over six months away from release but development of the phones is well underway. Early reports have provided some details about the Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro, and the latest leak now suggests that the standard Xiaomi 16 will be larger than its predecessors.
According to leaker Smart Pikachu, Xiaomi is geared to upsize the Xiaomi 16 this year. Starting with the Xiaomi 12 released in 2021, Xiaomi switched to a significantly smaller footprint with the 6.28-inch flagship launching as a compact device of sorts. Subsequent models—the Xiaomi 13, 14, and 15—featured slightly larger 6.36-inch displays, but it appears the Xiaomi 16 will represent yet another increase in display size.
This isn't unexpected news, as Xiaomi is widely reported to be upsizing its devices this year. Both the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro and Redmi K80 Ultra, for example, are expected to ditch the 6.67-inch display size on previous iterations for new 6.83-inch screens. The Xiaomi 16 appears set to follow that trend.
It's unknown how large exactly the Xiaomi 16 will be but mutterings on the grapevine seem to indicate a 6.5-inch screen. Supposedly, this change will directly result in a thinner and lighter smartphone, with Xiaomi exploiting the larger surface area by using "horizontally expanded" components. Additionally, the Xiaomi 16 is expected to ditch the traditional 3x zoom lens on its predecessors for an ultra-thin periscope lens.
