Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro codenames surface with global models already being worked on

Last month, GSMChina revealed IMEI database entries for the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro, which are both expected to debut in late autumn. As we discussed at the time, the website spotted Chinese and Global models, with 23127PN0CC and 23127PN0CG assigned to the Xiaomi 14. By contrast, 23116PN5BC and 23116PN5BG are believed to be Chinese and Global variants of the Xiaomi 14 Pro, respectively.

Subsequently, Xiaomiui has discovered early MIUI development for both unreleased flagships. According to the website, Xiaomi began MIUI China testing on April 25, two days before it commenced equivalent MIUI Global development. As the screenshots below show, Xiaomi is testing MIUI 14 for 'Houji' and 'Shennong', codenames that also have 'global' offshoots.

Like previous Xiaomi flagships, these codenames have their roots in mythology, with Houji often referred to as Hou Ji. For reference, Shennong is known in Vietnamese mythology as Thần Nông. Incidentally, Digital Chat Station has recently referred to Houji and Shennong as codenames for future Xiaomi smartphones. The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro are rumoured to be some of the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphones, which Qualcomm may launch in November. The pair are tipped to feature USB 3.2 connectivity and improved selfie cameras, among other changes from the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro.
