Xiaomi 14 Ultra rumoured to launch with new 1-inch camera sensor
Xiaomi has only just started selling the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro. Strictly speaking, it is unclear which primary camera sensor either model possesses. While Xiaomi states that both smartphones utilise the 'Light Hunter 900', it has revealed which manufacturer produces this sensor.
Initially, it was believed that Xiaomi had customised a Sony sensor, albeit with unknown origins. Recently, there have been suggestions that the pair could be relying on the Omnvision OV50H instead, details of which you can find on Omnvision's website. For reference, the Omnvision OV50H is a 1/1.3-inch sensor, just like the Light Hunter 900.
By contrast, Xiaomi equipped the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra with the Sony IMX989, a 1-inch sensor also found in the Vivo X90 Pro Plus, among other devices. Reportedly, Xiaomi will return to a 1-inch sensor for its next Ultra-branded smartphone, although leakers are in disagreement about what sensor this could be.
On the one hand, Digital Chat Station implies that it will be the LYT-900, which outputs natively at 50 MP. On the other hand, others suggest that it could be the Omnivision OV50K, another 50 MP sensor that Huawei is interested in using it, too. Currently, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is anticipated to arrive in mid-2024, likely after the global release of the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro.
