Cubot KingKong 8: New rugged smartphone launches with bright flashlight and decent features
Cubot launches a new rugged smartphone that is not only supposed to convince with its resistance but also with additional functions that are quite useful on hikes. The smartphone also functions as a flashlight: Two individual LEDs are installed for this purpose, and their brightness is specified at 6,000 lumens. To ensure that the smartphone does not run out of light too quickly, a decent 10,600 mAh battery is installed at the battery.
The smartphone, which measures 169.9 x 80.2 millimeters and is still fairly thin at 20 millimeters, weighs 382 grams and is equipped with an MT8788/WA SoC. The computing chip combines four Cortex A73 and four Cortex A53 cores and can access a not-too-scarce working memory of six gigabytes. The internal storage of 256 gigabytes is also decent, and it is possible to expand the storage. However, users have to decide between the memory expansion and the dual-SIM feature. It is not a 5G smartphone, but band 20, which is relevant in this country, is supported.
A 6.53-inch screen is installed, but its resolution is only 1,612 x 720 pixels. The main camera has a resolution of 48 megapixels, and the front-facing camera has a resolution of 16 megapixels. A GNSS module with GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo support is installed. The Wi-Fi module supports connections in the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks. NFC is available, and a fingerprint sensor is also found on the side. The IP68 and IP69K-certified smartphone relies on Android 13.
At AliExpress, the model is currently listed for a price of just over 235 Euros, and shipping to Germany is available. Import duties, but not the flat rate for expenses, are supposed to be included in the price.
