Cubot Max 5: This budget-friendly smartphone designed for gamers, features fast display and 5G

We have already reported about the manufacturer Cubot several times. Among other things, the company offers cheaper smartphones and also has rugged devices in its range. With the Cubot Max 5, the manufacturer now also wants to appeal to video gamers, although Cubot is also likely to target a more price-conscious audience with this device.

Cubot does not use an SoC from Qualcomm, but a chip from MediaTek. The Dimensity 8200 features Cortex-A78 computing cores with a clock frequency of up to 3.1 GHz and a Mali-G610 graphics solution. A cellular modem is integrated into the SoC, which promises the 5G standard support and the corresponding connection to modern cellular networks.

According to the manufacturer, the Cubot Max 5 is offered with up to 24 gigabytes of RAM - although it is not yet entirely clear whether this refers to the physical RAM or, as is often the case, the total capacity resulting from a physical RAM and a virtual swap file. Depending on the equipment version, an internal memory of up to 256 gigabytes is used.

The 6.95-inch screen is advertised as having a significantly increased refresh rate - Cubot specifically puts this at 144 Hz, which should also result in a smooth display of fast video games - at least if the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 can accelerate them sufficiently. The 5,100 mAh battery can be charged with 33 watts, a 100-megapixel main camera is used, which is supplemented by a macro lens with 5 MP and a front camera with 32 megapixels. The global release is scheduled for July 22.
