Cubot’s new rugged phone, the KingKong Power 5, is certainly not for those looking for a compact device. Measuring 83.9 x 182.85 x 24.6 mm (3.3 x 7.2 x 1.0 in), its chunky build is the result of its rugged construction and huge 15,300 mAh battery. This massive battery capacity provides exceptionally long runtimes and allows the phone to function as a power bank. Like many other rugged phones, the KingKong Power 5 comes with a range of additional features. For instance, there are built-in lights on both the back cover and top edge, enabling the phone to illuminate a wider area or produce a more focused beam – potentially useful for lighting paths. According to Cubot, the device can output 1,200 lumens in floodlight mode and 1,000 lumens in torchlight mode. The phone also features a speaker capable of reaching as loud as 136 dB.
The KingKong 5 is built to resist water, dust and drops, meeting the requirements of IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810. Powering the device is a MediaTek Helio G100 SoC, which offers modest performance and lacks 5G capability. The processor is paired with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, expandable by installing a memory card instead of a second SIM card. The main camera has a resolution of 16 MP, whilst the 6.68-inch display supports refresh rates of up to 120 Hz. However, the screen's relative low resolution of 720 x 1,640 may result in less sharp visuals. Cubot has yet to reveal any details on pricing and availability, but the company's KingKong smartphones are easily available through retailers like Amazon.
