Similarly to the EDC33, Nitecore's larger EDC35 version works with a particularly high energy density battery. This allows the EDC35 to achieve a lighting range of up to 550 meters while almost doubling the battery life of the smaller model.

Nitecore has introduced the EDC35, an enlarged version of the EDC33, as an everyday carry flashlight. The new torch is slightly heavier, larger and thicker than its predecessor, the EDC33, which was launched in December.

The EDC35 flashlight also has two operating modes, namely floodlight ("Lumin Shield") and spotlight, which is implemented with different LEDs. In the case of the former, 5000 lumens and 500 meters are possible, while the latter achieves a range of up to 550 meters at 3000 lumens. Battery life is not specified for these two modes as they are only intended for temporary use. If the flashlight is operated at high settings for too long, the system has sensors in place to protect itself from overheating.

Battery life significantly increased with 21700 battery

Nevertheless, the runtimes have been significantly increased from the EDC33 to the EDC35, as the other modes show. At 1300 lumens, the flashlight has a runtime of 4:45 hours according to the data sheet. In comparison, the EDC33 offers 2:31 hours at 1200 lumens. In minimum 5-lumen mode, 90 hours is possible, an improvement of 50% compared to the smaller model.

Unfortunately, as with the EDC33, the battery cannot be replaced. According to Nitecore, a 21700 battery is installed inside the EDC35. Like its predecessor, this has a particularly high capacity (6000 mAh) that offers 21.6 watt hours. The normal capacity for a 21700 battery is around 18 watt hours. Four LEDs indicate the status of the battery.

It is not yet clear whether these batteries will also be available on the market individually. When asked about the EDC33 battery, Nitecore said that the company is thinking about it, but that nothing has been decided yet. Either way, this does not change the lack of interchangeability of the EDC series.

Nitecore has not yet announced the price. In Hong Kong dollars, the company was charging around HKD 500, which roughly corresponds to around $60, via a Kickstarter preorder process that has now closed. However, since the predecessor costs around EUR 80 (around $86) in Germany, a price of around EUR 100 (around $108) can be expected for the new version.
